It’s very common after an egg retrieval for a couple of days to have sharp shooting pains, which are typically pelvic pains.

Some women may experience a degree of back pain. Our understanding is that it’s probably due to a small amount of blood just irritating the pelvis. It’s very common, and it resolves by itself.

Dr. Jenny Cook is a Fertility Specialist who works at the Monash IVF clinic. She has published widely in the area of Gynaecological Laparoscopy and has presented at many national and international meetings. She is recognised for her experience in laparoscopic gynaecological procedures.
