Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is otherwise know as ADHD. It is a condition that makes it difficult to concentrate and control your behaviour. ADHD is characterised by hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
These kinds of behaviour can be a normal part of growing up. It’s really only when it becomes disruptive to day-to-day life, that it is diagnosed as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. There is still debate about what causes it. We do know it is more common in boys and often arises in early childhood. Many people with ADHD have it their whole lives. However these symptoms can be managed. Family support and education is important. Psychological treatment is an option.
Some medications are available too. A person with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder needs support and understanding from friends and family.
