What is Soluvit N used for
SOLUVIT N is a sterile concentrate which provides the body with water-soluble multivitamins by the intravenous route. When the intake of nutrients or food into the mouth or directly into the gut is not possible, or it is not enough to supply the body’s needs, then intravenous nutrients or foods can be given. This is especially important for people whose bodies are under physical stress from illness or recent surgery. During illness or after surgery the body requires nutrition or food.
It is usually given together with fats, amino acids, glucose and trace elements to provide a complete intravenous diet.
Before you are given Soluvit N
When you must not take it
- if you or your child are allergic to the ingredients of this medicine. If you develop a rash or other allergic reactions (like itching, swollen lips or face, or shortness of breath), inform your doctor immediately
Before you start to take it
Talk to your doctor if you or your child has problems with the way your liver or kidneys work or have an allergy to any other medicines.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Soluvit N can be used by pregnant and breast-feeding women.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications.
How to take Soluvit N
How much to take
The dose of SOLUVIT N will be determined by your doctor.
The doctor will supervise your or your child’s treatment with SOLUVIT N.
How to take it
This medicine will be administered by a healthcare professional. You will receive your medicine by infusion (drip) into a vein.
SOLUVIT N should be dissolved first and then diluted for single infusion only.
SOLUVIT N is usually mixed in the bag of amino acids, glucose and/or fats, fat-soluble vitamins and given as a continuous infusion into a central vein. An electronic pump may be used to control the speed of the infusion of drip.
Side Effects
Since SOLUVIT N has to be diluted with other nutrient solutions, it may cause unwanted effects in some people.
Shivering, chills and nausea and vomiting occur in less than 1% of people who use it. Reports of other unwanted effects caused by SOLUVIT N are extremely rare.
Unwanted effects which have been reported to occur immediately or soon after a nutrient solution has been given include: allergic reactions (skin rash and hives); breathing difficulties (rapid breathing, shortness of breath); effects on blood pressure; abdominal pain; tiredness; headaches; flushing; slight pressure over the eyes and dizziness.
If you or your child have/has these or any other unwanted effects during treatment, tell his/her doctor.
If you are given too much (overdose)
This rarely happens as SOLUVIT N is administered under the care of a trained professional in a hospital or clinic setting.
However if you think that you have received too much SOLUVIT N, inform your doctor or nurse immediately.

Storage & Disposal
Storage
Store below 25°C and not frozen. Protect from light.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the vial label.
Disposal
Any unused medicinal product or waste material should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.
Product Description
What it looks like
SOLUVIT N is a sterile, yellow powder in a vial. It comes in a carton pack of 10 vials.
Ingredients
1 vial contains the following ingredients:
- Thiamine nitrate 3.1 mg,
- Sodium riboflavine phosphate 4.9 mg (corresponding to Vitamin B2 3.6 mg),
- Nicotinamide 40 mg,
- Pyridoxine hydrochloride 4.9 mg (corresponding to Vitamin B6 4.0 mg),
- Sodium pantothenate 16.5 mg (corresponding to Pantothenic acid 15 mg),
- Sodium ascorbate 113 mg (corresponding to Vitamin C 100 mg),
- Biotin 60 µg,
- Folic acid 400 µg,
- Cyanocobalamin 5 µg,
- Glycine 300 mg,
- Edetate sodium 500 µg,
- Methyl hydroxybenzoate 500 µg (preservative).
SOLUVIT N does not contain gluten, lactose, sucrose, tartrazine or any other azo dyes.
SOLUVIT N can be identified by AUST R 40145.
