Giovene™ Specialised Scar Formula

Consumer Medicine Information

WHAT IS GIOVENE?

Giovene is a clinically proven specialised scar formula which softens, flattens and lightens scars, helping to reduce the appearance of the scar.

Giovene contains an innovative cyclic and polymeric siloxanes (CPX) technology which improves the appearance of scars by softening, flattening and moisturising the scar.

Giovene scar formula is:

  • Non-greasy and oil free
  • Dries quickly (in 2 minutes)
  • Water resistant

Giovene contains Vitamin C ester which has a neutral pH that is non-irritating to the skin. This scar formula has been clinically proven to lighten scars and protect them from the environment.

Giovene is compatible with cosmetics, moisturisers and sunscreen.

WHAT TYPES OF SCARS CAN GIOVENE BE USED ON?

Giovene is suitable for use on scars that result from surgery or accidents (such as cuts, burns, scratches and abrasions). These scars may be large, thick, dry, elevated or dark/red in appearance. They may also be itchy or even painful. Giovene can be used on the face, body or on keloid scars.

HOW DO I USE GIOVENE?

  1. Place a ½ cm amount of Giovene on the tip of your finger and apply to clean, dry and intact scars (½ cm of gel is sufficient for a 15 cm scar) – adjust quantity depending on the size of scar.
  2. Spread Giovene in one direction 1 – 2 times – do not rub back and forth.
  3. Allow 2 minutes for Giovene to dry. Once dry you can apply cosmetics, moisturiser or sunscreen if required.
  4. For best results, apply Giovene twice daily (morning and evening).

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY GIOVENE?

For minor scars (i.e. small burns, cuts and scratches) you may apply Giovene after the scar has healed or closed.

For major scars (i.e. from surgical wounds) you may start to apply Giovene 10 – 14 days after surgery.

HOW LONG SHOULD I USE GIOVENE FOR?

Initial improvement in scars may be observed after 8 weeks of continued use. Continuous usage for 3 -6 months is required to appreciate the full benefit of Giovene.

WHEN SHOULD GIOVENE NOT BE USED?

Giovene should not be applied to open or wet wounds. Giovene should not be applied near the eyes or used concurrently with other skin medications without the advice of your healthcare professional.

In general, Giovene should not cause irritation, redness or pain. If any irritation occurs, stop using the product and consult your healthcare professional.

HOW SHOULD GIOVENE BE STORED?

Store below 25°C and away from heat sources.

Keep out of reach of children.

Do not use after the expiry date.

GENERAL ADVICE:

When applying Giovene, use a small amount to cover the scar. Applying a generous amount will not increase the gel’s effectiveness.

A 15 g tube will last for approximately 2 months if applied to a scar 15 cm in length.

Before applying Giovene, you may want to take a picture of your scar or measure the length of your scar. This can help you track the progress.

Be careful not to expose your scar to extreme temperatures or intense sunlight.

Where appropriate, try to avoid tight fitting attire near the area of the scar, as this may irritate the scar.
