What Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief is used for
Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief provides temporary relief of moderate to severe pain from the following:
- Headache (including tension and migraine)
- Period Pain
- Toothache
- Muscle Pain
- Backache
- Neuralgia
- Rheumatic Pain
- Pain associated with trauma or surgery
The ‘Night’ tablet also provides a calmative effect, enabling you to rest.
Your doctor or pharmacist may recommend this medication for another use. If you want more information ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Before you take Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief
When you must not take it
Do not take Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief if:
- you have had an allergic reaction with paracetamol, codeine or doxylamine succinate or other ingredients in the ‘Day’ and ‘Night’ tablets (see under ‘Product Description’);
- you have had an allergic reaction to other opioid analgesic such as morphine or pethidine
- you have had an allergic reaction to other antihistamines
Symptoms of an allergic reaction to these medicines may include:
- asthma, wheezing or shortness of breath
- swelling of the face, lips or tongue which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
- hives, itching or skin rash
- fainting
Do not take Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Relief if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
Do not take Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Relief if the expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack has passed. If you take this medicine after the expiry date has passed, it may not work as well.
Before you start to take it
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes.
Tell you doctor if you have or have had any of the following medical conditions:
- breathing problems
- liver or kidney problems
- urinary retention or prostate problems
- glaucoma
- stomach ulcers or disorders
- you are a heavy drinker
- you are currently experiencing diarrhoea
- depression
- bowel problems
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or are breast-feeding. Your doctor or pharmacist can discuss with you the risks and benefits involved.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you get without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines/substances and Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Relief may interfere with each other. These include:
- anticoagulants (medicines that thin the blood such as warfarin)
- medicines containing metoclopromide or propantheline
- sleeping tablets
- medicines used to treat high blood pressure
- medicines for treating epilepsy or fits
- antidepressants
- opioid analgesic (such as morphine and pethidine)
- alcohol
- chloramphenicol (an antibiotic)
If you have not told your doctor or pharmacist about any of the above, tell them before you use Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief.
How to take Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief
How much to take
Adults and Children over 12 years:
‘Day’ tablet: 2 tablets every 4 hours if necessary (maximum 6 ‘Day’ tablets in 24 hours).
‘Night’ tablet: 2 tablets at bedtime if necessary (maximum 2 ‘Night’ tablets in 24 hours).
Do not exceed 8 tablets in a 24-hour period.
Not to be given to children under 12 years of age.
How to take it
Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.
When to take it
Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief can be taken with or without food.
If you take too much
Immediately telephone your doctor, or the Poisons Information Centre (telephone 131 126, or go to the nearest casualty section of a hospital, if you think you or anyone else may have taken too much Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning. You may need urgent medical attention.
While you are using Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief
Precautions while using this medicine
Be careful driving or operating machinery until you know how Chemists’ Own Coldeze affects you. This medication may cause drowsiness and/or dizziness in some people. If affected do not drive a vehicle, operate machinery or do anything else that could be dangerous.
Be careful when drinking alcohol while you are taking this medicine. If you drink alcohol, drowsiness and dizziness may be worse.
Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Relief should be used strictly as directed. Codeine may be habit forming if taken frequently and over a long period. Prolonged use without medical supervision could be harmful.
Side effects
Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you notice any of the common side effects or if you do not feel well while taking Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief. All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not.
If you are 60 years and over you may have an increased chance of getting side effects.
The more common side effects of Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief are:
- Skin rashes
- Dry mouth
- Sedation
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Abdominal pain and constipation
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell.
Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some people.
After using Chemists’ Own Day/Night Relief
Storage
Keep your tablets in the blister pack until it is time to take them. If you take the tablets out of the blister pack they may not keep well.
Keep it in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
Do not store any medicines in the bathroom or in moist areas, or do not leave them in the car on hot days. Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.
Keep it where children cannot reach it. A locked cupboard or at least one-and-half metres above the ground is a good place to store medicines.
Disposal
If your doctor tells you to stop taking Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief, or the tablets have passed their expiry date, ask you pharmacist what to do with any that are left over.

What it looks like
Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief consists of two types of tablets:
- ‘Day’ tablet is a small yellow capsule-shaped tablet embossed ‘DOLASED’;
- ‘Night’ tablet is a small white capsule-shaped tablet embossed ‘DOLASED’.
Chemists’ Own Dolased Day/Night Pain Relief is available in two pack sizes:
- blister pack containing 20 ‘Day’ tablets and 10 ‘Night’ tablets
- blister pack containing 40 ‘Day’ tablets and 20 ‘Night’ tablets
‘Day’ tablet – Ingredients

Each tablet contains:
Paracetamol 500mg and Codeine Phosphate 9.6mg
Inactives:
Lactose, Povidone, Sodium starch glycollate, Magnesium stearate, Stearic acid, Glyceryl monostearate, Quinoline yellow ci 47005 and Sunset yellow FCF ci 15985
‘Night’ tablet – Ingredients
Actives:
Each tablet contains:
Paracetamol 500mg, Codeine Phosphate 9.6mg and Doxylamine Succinate 5.1mg
Inactives:
Lactose, Povidone, Crospovidone, Magnesium stearate, Stearic acid and Glyceryl monostearate
