What Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream is used for

Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream is used to treat:

  • tinea (ringworm) infections of the groin and body
  • tinea infections of the feet, commonly called “athlete’s foot”

These infections are caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes.

It is also used to treat yeast infections of the skin such as thrush caused by the fungus Candida albicans.

Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream can be used for children aged 12 yeas or older. Usage in younger children is not recommended.

Before you use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream

Do not use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream if you are allergic to terbinafine or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.

Do not use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream if the expiry date (Exp.) printed on the pack has passed.

Do not use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream if the packaging shows signs of tampering of the tube seal is broken.

Do not use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. There is little experience with the safety of using terbinafine cream during pregnancy therefore it should not be used by pregnant women or those who are trying to become pregnant.

Do not use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL if you are breastfeeding.

How to use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream

Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream should only be applied to the skin outside the body. Wash your hands after using the cream and avoid applying the cream near your eyes or touching your eyes while you still have it on your hands.

How much to use

Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream is usually applied once daily. It is important to clean and thoroughly dry the affected area of your skin before applying.

Apply the cream to the affected skin AND to the area surrounding the affected skin. Use only a thin layer of the cream and rub it in lightly.

If you need to apply the cream between your toes, fingers or buttocks, under a breast or armpit, or in the groin region, the area may be covered with gauze after applying the cream. This is particularly useful at bedtime.

How long to use it

The length of your treatment will depend on the type of infection you have and what part of the body is affected.

  • For all tinea infections except on the soles of the feet, CHEMISTS’ OWN TAMSIL Cream should be used for 1 week.
  • For a tinea infection on the sole of the foot, Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream should be used for 2 to 4 weeks.
  • For yeast infections, Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream should be used for 1 to 2 weeks.

While the signs of an infection may disappear after only using Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream for a few days, it is important to continue using the cream for the recommended period.

The reason is that if you use Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream for only a few days, you may not remove all the fungi from the affected areas. As a result, the infection may return soon after you stop using the cream.

See your doctor if, after using CHEMISTS’ OWN TAMSIL Cream for 1 to 2 weeks, there is no improvement in your condition.

In case of overdose

If the cream is accidentally swallowed, contact your doctor, pharmacist or Poisons Information Centre (telephone 13 11 26).

Swallowing a large amount of the cream may cause an upset stomach.

Side effects

Some people may experience redness, itchiness or a stinging sensation in the area where Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream is applied.

Although these symptoms are normally harmless, you should tell your pharmacist if they occur, as you may be experiencing an allergy to the cream. If you pharmacist confirms you are suffering from an allergy to Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream, you should stop using it.

Keep Chemists’ Own TAMSIL Cream in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C.
