What determines my cancer outcome? Dr Michael Boyer

by | Cancer Care

Cancer survival and the outcome of your cancer is determined by many things. The cancer itself determines it.

But very importantly, the team that is looking after you plays an important role. Having the right team with the right experience can actually change your outcome. And we know that, particularly for rarer cancers, this is particularly important. So the team comprises doctors, things like surgeons, radiation, and medical oncologist, but it also comprises many other support people, nurses, specialist nurses, speech therapists, dieticians, psychologists. You really need all of those people working with you, and you, the patient, should be at the centre of all of this, to make sure that you have every opportunity to be treated in the best possible way for your cancer.

Professor Michael Boyer is Medical Oncologist at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse
